Our Services

Solihealth provide the Solihull Community Skin Service (SCSS) which is being implemented across the GP practices.

The origin of SCSS was to review the cases of all patients that were being referred by the doctor to secondary care specialists with the exception of 2 week wait referrals (usually related to skin cancer). GPs with specialist qualifications in Dermatology (GPwER) can see patients at clinics held within the Solihull locality.

The patient will quickly have their condition assessed and be provided with the required treatment or further tests to determine the exact nature of the problem.

SCSS provides a “community” based service ensuring all patients are seeing a specialist within weeks which removes pressure on hospital services. The experience of the GPWERS engaged by the SSS will also lead to a closer collaboration with hospital consultants on agreed forms of treatment, further decreasing the time that patients will be waiting for
specialist attention.

The Solihull Community Skin Service will be expanding the range of services in 2023/24 as part of a development plan working with the ICB, other intermediate providers, and dermatology secondary care consultants.

LARC – Long Acting Reversible Contraception

LARC is the term used for birth control that helps prevent pregnancy after just one treatment.

There are 4 types of LARC:

  • Contraceptive injection
  • Contraceptive implant
  • Coil with hormones (IUS)
  • Coil without hormones (IUD).

Our aim would be to extend the commissioning of LARC services in Solihull, providing over 95% of the LARC and bringing the service to a locality level improving access and flexibility for patients.

Costs Sharing Groups

The Board is currently reviewing its options in relation to Costs Sharing Groups and the impact of VAT on invoices issued by PCNs.

The objective is to avoid charging VAT which would ordinarily reduce the relevant medical services budget by 20% and taking advantage of delivering services at scale.
