Fit Note Reform Pilot
SoliHealth is taking part in a Government pilot testing a new health and work service to replace the current fit note process for patients who are in work.
The new service provides personalised support for patients through a new SoliHealth Community Work and Health Team. Instead of simply being given a fit note, patients will develop a personalised workability plan with a work and health professional. This sets out what they can do at work, what changes might help or if time off is needed.
Dermatology
Following an initial pilot phase in 2022/23, we have successfully established the Solihull Community Skin Service (SCSS), an enhanced intermediate dermatology service across the Locality.
This service was originally proposed by a group of Solihull GP’s as a way of removing some of the pressure on hospital services which had a significant waiting list. The SCSS allows quicker access for patients to see a GP who holds additional qualifications in the field of dermatology and can then be treated and managed accordingly in the community.
We work with our local commissioning team and specialists from secondary care to shape this service and continue to evaluate its success both in terms of reducing waiting times, increased patient satisfaction and improved clinical outcomes, whilst also ensuring those patients with a potentially significant diagnosis are seen and referred on without delay.
The deflection rates, where we prevent patients entering the secondary care system and the reduction in waiting times are impressive.
LARC – Long Acting Reversible Contraception
The SoliHealth LARC service has been running since August 2023. We provide contraceptive coil and implant insertions and removals for all patients registered with a Solihull GP practice.
The aim of the service is to improve the equity of LARC provision across Solihull. We work closely with SMBC Public Health to analyse data relating to LARC uptake, termination of pregnancy rates and underage pregnancies and to target our service to address these concerns.
Access to appointments can be via email, self-referral or via GP practices and our waiting lists are typically under 4 weeks. We operate from hubs in both North and South Solihull to address access needs.
Since commencing our LARC service, Solihull has seen a 19% increase in LARC uptake with all practices now able to access LARC. SoliHealth are currently providing 15% of LARC across the Borough.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) enhanced workplace health-checks
We worked successfully with SMBC and JLR over the last three months of 2024/25 to pilot a health check programme at JLR as part of their approach to improving their employees’ health and well-being, known as People Love Day. The success of this pilot led to JLR requesting that we continue to work with them following the end of the pilot.
We provide GP follow up appointments after health checks carried out by JLR. This immediate opportunity to access GP support is different to the standard health check process and shows an uptake of GP follow up appointments at around 50% for those meeting the escalation criteria.
The service is currently commissioned to run till the end of February 2027.
Solihull Locality Hub
We are providing primary care support to the Solihull Locality Hub based at Solihull Hospital. The service aims to reduce pressure on general practice and secondary care, providing efficient and accessible same day pathways for Solihull patients.
The current focus of the Hub is on proactively supporting patient to age well through an aging well, or frailty, pathway. This provides a multidisciplinary assessment and personalised treatments for older adults. The aim is to support people manage their long-term conditions, maintain independence, prevent hospital admissions, and overall promote health and wellbeing.

Other services currently being provided in the Locality Hub are for patients with suspected DVTs and those who require wound care not available from their GP or provided in secondary care.
Plans for additional services in 2026/27 include end of life care, heart failure, hypertension, inflammatory leg conditions and catheter care.
Other Services
We work with our member practices, PCNs, BSoL ICB, University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB), Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC), and other local health and care stakeholders in Solihull to identify, design and implement projects that aim to improve the long term health and wellbeing of residents.
2025/2026 projects:
Smoking cessation service
We are supporting ABL by undertaking case finding for smokers in Solihull on behalf of our member PCNs.
The support is targeted at areas of highest need but will be expanded as the project progresses.
SMBC enhanced health-checks pilot
As a result of the success of the enhanced workplace health-check project at JLR, SMBC commissioned a pilot to provide a similar ‘enhanced health-check’ experience for patients in parts of Solihull that are identified as being the most deprived in the borough and also where uptake of NHS health-checks has traditionally been low.
The pilot ran from October 2025 – March 2026 and is currently being evaluated.
